Making Leaps and Bounds

The last 2 months have been big ones for Christina. We asked to have her hearing tested because the clarity of her speech. The Ear, Nose and Throat specialist was not able to perform the test because she had so much ear wax build up. Poor girl, she really couldn't hear. Everything sounded like she had ear plugs in. After we softened the wax and got it removed, her speech improved a lot. One example is Baba became Baby. Unfortunately, they also discovered that she had fluid in her ears. So everything also sounded like it was under water. With only having had one ear infection in her life, they decided she needed tubes put in her ears and her adenoids taken out! Thankfully, these are common surgeries. There is something nerve racking about having your child go under.

They kept saying she would be bouncing off the walls after the surgery. I can handle that. They failed to mention that she would flip out at the idea of having to take off her Dora PJs to put on the hospital gown! They failed to mention the drink to make her loopy would taste gross and my great medicine taker would not wan to drink it. They also failed to mention that when she came out of surgery she would be screaming and crying for them to take the IV out of her hand. They could only take the IV out after she drank something and Christina did not want to drink anything. I was not prepared for these little scenes of trauma! But as soon as she got home in front of a movie she was great! And she did try bouncing off the walls later that day!
Her language and speech have been improving so much now that she can actually hear! It has been fun to see the improvement everyday! It is funny to see her plug her ears and talk. I wonder if she is remembering how everything use to sound!
In between all of this, Christina decided to be potty trained! That has been both wonderful and hard. I am glad it was her idea. I am glad she is doing so well. Other times I would rather be nursing on the couch instead of in the bathroom. Or sometime I wish that she wouldn't have the urge to poop 20 times before she will actually go but it is better than cleaning the underwear or changing the diaper! Yeah for only buying one set of diapers!

Wow, I didn't know that she had all that trouble. I'm glad that she can hear now. Good job, for getting down to the bottom of it.

Okay if there are other people commenting on your blog BEFORE me that means you handed it out earlier and didn't tell me. I am put out. PUT OUT! LOL! Really jealous too about the potty training. Although I do think one of us should have at least one easy one. I only have one left, so she had better be my easy one!!!! hee hee love you!!!!!!!!

Oh my goodness.....that is a lot for a little girl to go through. Doesn't it just break your heart to see your kids go through stuff like that? I'm glad you are on the other side, and she is doing much better! Good luck with the potty training. It does seem to go so much better when they decide it is time. I hope that is the case!! Does it feel any different yet having a boy? (people probably always ask you that.....like people always ask me that about having a girl....) He is so cute!

Hey Sarah!! How did you find me? From my facebook page? I'm so glad you started a blog! They really are fun, but I have to limit the time I'm on the computer because I have too much fun catching up on all my friends and their little lives! Your kids are so darling! I remember when it was just Savannah and you were expecting your second! Now you have a slew! Keep in touch! It's so good to hear from you! Tell Dave hi!

I'm glad that Christina got that all cleared out. It is so difficult when things are going on with your children and you don't know what they are.
I found the loopy medicine stuff interesting. Eva is going to the hospital to get dental work done this week and now I am a little more freaked out. I hope that I can prepare for our little trip better because of what you said.
